Hi Guys,

As promised here is a new story!

As you all know I love hearing from you guys, receiving your feedback, and taking request for upcoming stories. But every once in a while I am introduced to something, or in this case someone, who inspires me to write something for myself.

So for the person who motivated me to write this story. Thanks for the "inspiration" and remember this is only the beginning...

If you paid attention you will notice that I posted a blog about a few experiences with bad dates. Most of them were blind dates. I'm sure we have all been on one or two. Some of us had good experiences and some of us bad ones. Come check out Keely and Rupert 's (Jeff) story posted in the Chance Meetings section. Maybe there was a blind date that you hoped would turn out like this. I hope you enjoy it and as usual I look forward to reading your feedback.

Happy Reading!
Stephanie

Being the undying optimist, I have decided to turn a very bad date into a positive learning experience, rather than staying in bed for a few days, which was the alternative I considered at the time. <?xml:namespace prefix = o />

Now before I get deep into this blog I will tell you why I am writing it. A new short story will be coming your way soon and it is a about a date that has the “potential” of being a train wreck.

Okay, so back to my "date" let me set the scene for you.

It was a typical spring night, mild weather and a little overcast. I’d had a long day working on edits for an upcoming book so to try to “relax” before for the date, I spent a few hours curled up reading on my very comfortable couch with Rocky splayed across my lap, snoring softly. In short, a pretty good start to what was supposed to be a nice evening.

Yet all was not right. I had agreed to meet a man for a second date, a man that I wasn’t really into but had nonetheless agreed to go out with him just to make sure. I realize that chemistry doesn’t "always" happen at first glance.

Before I even left the house things started to go down hill. The sky opened up—no not literally—but rain began to pour down the instant I opened the door to leave. Now don’t get me wrong. I love the rain. I seem to do everything better when it rains. I especially like it when the rain is pouring down outside when I wake up. I pretty much stay in bed until it stops raining.

Okay, back to the date. I’m ticked off because I know I am going to get soaked and have to put up with idoic drivers who think they are on a “dry” track down at the Texas Motor Speedway. I want to cancel but it is too late to do so. What else is there for me to do but suck it up? So I say “see you later” to Rocky who is making the saddest eyes possible, the sound of thunder reverberates through the apartment. Rocky jumps about six feet in the air. He has this think about lightening and thunder, so I feel even worse about leaving him behind. I swear he whimpered and leaked out a tear as he realized I was leaving. And I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that at that moment, I felt like crying too.

Red Flag #1: If you feel like crying before your date, you probably shouldn’t go.

The only reason I got out of the apartment and into my car was by thinking about what my mother and the “friend” who hooked me up with this guy would say. Not that I would really care about what they thought, I just didn’t want to hear all of the ranting and raving that would accompany it.

This date quickly became what I like to refer a “defensive date.” It’s a date you go on with your defenses up because you think the other person is falling for you faster than you are falling for them. I hate going on dates like this because I constantly have my “foot on the brakes” being nice but not so much so that he thinks I’m going home with him.

Red Flag #2: Don’t go out on a date if with someone if you are just being nice to them because you don’t want to hurt their feelings by saying no.

The date became decidedly worse when he looked at me and says “Man, you are so hot. Why are you still single?”

Now we all know how I feel about “that” question. And if you don’t scroll back a few blogs and you will.

Then he added: “You seem like a really happy person. And a really busy person. It seems like you don’t need a man. So why are you even dating?”

Um, how do you answer that? “I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were only dating dejected, desperate girls?” “I apologize for my content and full life?” Uh, yeah right!

Red Flag #3: If you have to justify why you are happy with your life it may be a sign that they aren’t. So move on.

He then went on to ask why I’d broken up with my last boyfriend. Now, if we’d been dating for months I might answer. But date number two? And it wasn’t even truly date two because our first “date” had been a twenty minute conversation while at a coffee break with my “friend” at a local coffee shop. This guy just so happened to show up at the same time my “friend” and I were there—which I still think was "arranged" to this day So, with that being the case I only count that as a introduction.

At this point, I literally had lowered my face into my hands and really wanted to leave. In fact, if I’d had a $20 bill, I would have thrown it down and walked out. But at that time very rarely did I carry cash with me. A habit I have since rectified.

I really considered telling him I wanted to go home now but again got stuck by the feeling that “it would be mean and hurt his feelings.” Me and my stupid manners. Although I have to admit that after this date I wouldn’t be so “nice” now.

So you figure the night can’t get any worse right? Wrong! From there, he nervously relayed a story to me involving him and all the “crazy” antics he has pulled due to dares. Some are so gross my the food in my stomach starts to feel like lead. That’s right. He reverted from man to adolescent boy trying to impress the girl in a matter of seconds.

Somehow, I sucked it up and tried to get through the evening as politely quickly as possible even though inside I was really disappointed an pissed off. I got home as quickly as I could, called my “friend” and told her not to do me anymore “favors”. Of course she was shocked when I detailed the events of the evening. I am proud to say she hasn’t made any attempts to set me up again.

Still, later on that night, I crawled into bed with Rocky. I couldn’t decide whom I was more ticked off at, me or the “Bad Date Man”. In the end I won out, for not trusting my instinct and canceling the date not matter how “rude” it may have seemed and for not leaving—which kept me in a situation I didn’t need or want to be in.

Believe me when I say this is just one of the many horrific dates I have been on. Of course I realize I’m not alone in the world of bad dates so feel free to share a few of you on experiences.

Again I just thought this blog would be a good precursor to the short story I will be releasing this weekend. Until then…

TMI Tuesday-Stephanie

Every week when I answer these questions I wonder why I am torturing myself (and the readers). But here it is folks...

1) If you were to only live until the age of 50, how would you live your life differently?
Man this is tough because honestly I wouldn't live my life any differently. As difficult as some things might have been to go through, everything that I have experienced has played a part in my development as a person.

2) Are you settling with your significant other?
Well there is no "definite" significant other in my life at this time. But the answer to this question would be no since I refuse to settle.

3) How important is your family?
My family is my everything. If you meet them you will know why. People ask me if there is ever a time I put my writing aside. The answer is only for my family.

4) Historically, what has caused the most arguments in your relationships?
First I don't argue. I will not yell, curse, name call, scream or anything on this level. I refuse to do it because rarely does it solve anything. It is too taxing and usually ends up not solving the issue at all. However, I will discuss whatever the issue is like a rational adult. All that being said I'm sure my relationship disagreements are in line with those that others experience, because you don't see
eye-to-eye on something.

5) If you could only be one, would you rather be smart or good looking?
Smart of course! Even though I consider myself attractive, I haven't gotten where I am in life because of my looks.

6) Have you ever passed out or suffered memory loss from drinking too much?
Hell no! LOL! Believe me I can drink with the best of them but I know my limit. Also with my experience of seeing how insane other people look from drinking too much, I do not want to be one of those people you look at and sadly shake your head or point at and snicker.

7)
Looking back at your past loves, which one should you have
married/taken back and who should you have tossed earlier than you did?
Married: Even though I was engaged, "he" definitely wasn't the one. So at this point none of my past loves make me wonder if I "should" have married them.

Taken Back: Are you kidding!?! If you are a "ex" it is for a reason and there is no going back.

Tossed: Kenneth the abuser

Think all women just want to snag a meal ticket? Think again...

I recently heard a "man" convey wonder —no awe at the concept of an independent woman who earns her own money. Considering that this concept hasn’t been new for several decades, it was a bit odd.

What was even weirder was when another man chimed in with his opinion that all women are simply waiting to snare a man so they can get pregnant, stop working and be supported.

I’m positive that is nowhere near true.

I think these men need to get out more. Meet some new and different kind of people. Dare I say, expose themselves to the real world beyond the suffocating confines of their small social circles. (Both men are high-end of upper middle class, where one is possibly a little more likely to spot women shopping and “updating” those imperfections on hubby’s dime instead of contributing to society.)

As far as getting knocked up in order to be supported, I’m sure there are women who operate this way, but if that truly is their main motivation for becoming moms, I can’t help but think of them as lost souls who’ve depleted their other options in life.

So, what’s sadder? That women like this exist, or that some men think all women are this way?

I have a “friend” whose husband once told her he’d be fine with her getting invetro treatments when they were tossing around the idea of conceiving, but that she found herself typing stuff like “fourteen day Caribbean cruise” and “biking adventure France” into “Google search” instead of “fertility treatments.”

I laughed so hard when she told me this, not only because it was just plain funny, but because it was a relief to know I’m not the only one who enjoys adventure over domesticity.

Babies are sweet, but being able to jet off overseas alone, whenever I want, is pretty sweet, too. And oh, by the way, I don’t need a man or a “sugar daddy” to pick up the tab, either.

Now don’t get e wrong. I look forward to getting married and starting my own softball team if it is meant to be. But I won’t force it and I’m definitely not on the hunt for it. I can still remember the cries of desperation from some of my friends that they would never find a man, get married and have children. (this subject is coming up in another blog).

For me right now it’s about freedom. Freedom from diapers and day care, from T-ball and baby spit-up. The freedom to write, read, dance, date, nap, jet off to an exotic location, plan, daydream.

There was a time a woman would have been shunned for wanting these options—a time when she may not even have realized she wanted them. Society has moved on and gotten over itself.

This might shock my male acquaintances who think all women long to be left at home with the kiddies and the credit card.

I really think they need to get out more.

1. Don't tell us what it is, but do you have a sexual secret you have never told anyone?
Of course! Can't just tell anyone all the "good" stuff. But boy when the "right" one comes along boy is he in for a surprise or two...

2. Ever been skinny dipping?
Yes, back in my "crazy" college days. With the right persuasion I just might do it again...

3. How often do you kiss or make out without it simply being a foreplay activity?
Hey! What is it with these couple questions? I feel like I am being discriminated against.

Anyway, when I am in a relationship I am an affectionate person and kisses happens to be one of my favorite activities. I'm normally one of those annoying people you want to tell "get a room!". No not really. I enjoy kissing but I'm not a fiend.

4. What do you do to relieve stress?
I write. Writing is my stress reliever. It takes a lot to stress me out because I've always been a resilient person, but sometimes I reach my breaking point. So, I lock myself in a quiet area where I can't be disturbed and I write my heart out. Now it can be a story or just what I'm frustrated about, but it helps.

5. What was the special trait in your first lover that made you decide that they were "the one?"
I'm exempt from this question thank you very much!

Well I guess I can speak in "future" terms. I will know he is "the one" if he will allows me to be me. He will let me cry when I feel like crying, he will let me laugh when I need to laugh, and he will let me be quiet when I need to be quiet. He will be able to see through my defenses. No matter what he will offer his support, his presence, his patience and understanding.

6. Do you have guilty pleasure? What is it (or are they)?
1. Peaches and cottage cheese (I got that from my dad)
2. Grapefruit juice (picked this up from my mom)
3. Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (another fave I shared with my dad) This is my one true weakness! The only chocolate candy I can literally gorge myself on. I have never had a man show up on a first date with these as a "gift" but if he did I'd probably marry him. LoL!

7. What do you do that sends a clear signal to your partner that you're interested in an intimate evening?
Nothing too outrageous. If my partner knows me well enough it could be as simple as "the look" or a touch of his arm, thigh, back of his neck, etc. However, the main clue would be if I can't stop touching or running my fingers through his hair. That says I'm ready to take it to bed...and not to sleep!

Bonus: What is the one thing you wish you could go back and tell yourself as a child?
I wrote strange stories as a child. Not "sexual" stuff but "Edgar Allen Poe" type of stuff (freaked my mom out. I was a story away from a Psychologist). People didn't get it but I loved it!

So, I would go back and tell myself as a child, not to worry about what people think about my creative interest (at the time). It will pay off in the long run.

Thank goodness I kept forging forward despite the critics. While my work is no longer "Edgar Allen Poe-ish" or "strange" every one doesn't embrace the I/R genre but I could care less. Readers who follow my work will soon find out that I am a equal opportunity writer...

Okay folks until next Tuesday...

Okay, I said I wouldn't answer this one because it was just TMI. Then again that would make the entire point of this an oxymoron. The only reason I didn't say 10 is because I wish my father were still here physically to share all of the new accomplishments with me. My dream of being a bestselling author has come true. I have wonderful family and friends...not to mention all of you wonderful guys here on IE!

1a. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest), how satisfied are you with your sex life?
8.5! Sorry, what can I say. I watch too much Sex and the City and sometimes a girl just needs a half.

2. What is the easiest way for you to reach orgasm?
Too many ways to count! Just know if you are good it won't take you long to find out.

3. What are 3 inevitable things about you?
I'm always going to do something to make you laugh.
I never go anywhere with my laptop or pen and paper (yes this includes the bed. I never know when I will wake up in the middle of the night with an idea.
I'm a OCD when it comes to germs!

4. What is your favorite sexual position? (yes you have to narrow it to one)
Oh damn it! I have to choose? Well, since I do I will, but I definitely can't narrow it down to one. So I would take #2, #9 and #13 (not necessarily in that order)

4a. What is you least favorite sexual position?
Oh my there are a few that come to mind. #31 (I mean seriously, can the dude squeeze her breasts any harder? Ouch!) #6, # 18 and #36 (after Tracy's blog about "well hung men") all of the positions look like they might have you in a state of "perpetual bow-leggedness" or rearrange a few vital organs. And last but not least: #28, #33 and #39. I mean WTF! Did someone start a game of naked Twister and not tell me?

5. Favorite body part/parts of the opposite (or same) sex?
Hands, chest, legs, lips, eyes. Oh hell! Everything okay! Everything!

6.
Would you rather have your significant other (this can be a hypothetical
SO) have sex with someone else or fall in love with someone else? [You
have to pick one.]
Are you sure I have to pick one? Neither of these are acceptable options. However, if I have to choose one I will take the significant other having sex with someone else over falling in love with that person.

7. When you have a "toe-curling" orgasm, do your toes curl up, or down?
Is it me or do these actually mean the same thing? I'm not really sure so I'm going to say down. However, I'm willing to put the theory to the test. Any volunteers?

8. Name three words that:
a) get you excited: Come to bed
b) make you squirm: Are you ready
c) make you laugh: I can stop

Bonus (as in optional): What is you most embarrassing sexual moment?
Oh heck this was the question I had been dreading. Now I remember why I avoided this TMI for so long. As a matter of fact I refuse to answer this question on the grounds that it may incriminate me.

And until next Tuesday...

Why are you still single?

Just about the worse question you can ask a woman, but it seems to be the number one question other people are determined to have an answer to. Tracy and I always joke about the antics the people in my life pull to "hook" me up because a woman like me just shouldn't be single(the worst date ever blog is coming soon). But back to the subject at hand, this is one of the worse questions you can ask a woman. With a little use of your imagination I'm sure you could come up with a few more.

Still, there is no better time to be asked this question than when on a date. Seriously! I'm out of one of those God awful dates that one of my "supposed" friends have set me up on. The interesting thing, is that this guy was attractive, made a decent living, fell within an okay age range and seemed to have a good personality, yet, my "oh no" radar was still up. I quickly found out why.

To set the scene, we both arrive at the restaurant, pleasantries are exchanged, drink and food orders are taken. Then halfway through the meal, this silly, silly man let's the other shoe drop. In his most sincere voice he asks.

“Why are you still single?”

I cringed but, looked him in the eye, and asked “Why are you still single? You’re 8 years older than me!”

Okay okay. So I might have overreacted, but seriously I have been asked this question too many times! For some reason when I am asked this question I feel like I am being judged and then like I must justify myself. Insane since I am usually a person who gives a flip about what you say or think.

So I stare across the table at this man who clearly never received a lesson on first date etiquette and contemplate what my answer should be...

“Well, you see, I was in a past relationship that ended a while back, then I decided I'd had enough with "sneaky snakes" and wanted to be by myself. To be alone, without the anal discharge (thanks Tracy). I only recently decided that I want to starting dating again."

Or: “I’m persnickety as hell.”

Or: “I’m still figuring out what kind of person I want to be with (and after the question you just asked you clearly aren't it).”

These are all real responses that I’ve actually given that I’ll stand behind. But me being the over-analytical person that I am, it is the underlying question they’re not asking is far worse: “What’s wrong with you that has prevented you from finding a man by now?”

Okay, now seriously, if there was something terribly wrong with me, do you think I would tell you?

The first time I was asked this was a couple of years ago, while I celebrated New Years with a group of wonderful, single, and intelligent friends. I had broken up with a man I wasn't meant to be with on any level, two months before.

My girls are I were intent on having a good time, trying to pretend the room wasn’t filled with happy couples when a drunk and unfortunately attractive man stumbled by our table, did a double take, grabbed onto my friend Veronica’s chair for stability and slurred it out “Wha—at are all you boo-ta-ful women doing single?”

There it was. The question that we were trying not to think about, not that day. There was a moment of silence. And then, as the smart, sexy women we are, we counterattacked.

“We haven’t found anyone we like yet.”

"Oh, am I single? I didn’t remember. But thank you so much for bringing that up!”

“We’re happier this way!”

The waitress hovering nearby suggested loudly he buy us all a shot. We agreed. He sat down, had some tequila with us and we forgave him his rudeness.

The next time the question surfaced was on a first date. I probably replied in a combination of the above responses and added the comment to my mental list of his growing negatives checks. (I’m sorry, but I really don’t want to talk about your ex-wife, ex-girlfriend, or ex-lover for two hours straight the first time I meet you!)

The thing is, it’s an offensive comment no matter who asks it. If my uncle or my aunt asked, I might be able to throw it off with a glib comment and a laugh and it wouldn't bother me. I would like to say a girlfriend would never ask that because we know better but unfortunately I can't. Probably because they are all getting married and squeezing out kids at an alarming rate.

I won't even get started on my mother who I love very dearly. At this point, I honestly think the woman doesn't care if I get married. She just wants grandchildren!
So now I digress...ok ladies (and the gents reading this), it’s time to share…what do you say when asked that? Do you have a perfect response?

TMI Tuesday-Stephanie

Howdy IE readers,

Thought I would take a break from book edits and take my turn at TMI Tuesday. Sometimes I wonder if my computer is going to implode from answering the TMI Tuesday questions but here you go.

1. Which ONE do you wish you had more of in bed... romance, experimentation or foreplay?
Who says I have to have a bed? No, I'm kidding. I will be a good girl and answer the question as it is. Well, I am single right now, (yes guys you heard it right, I'm single) so at this time I could use a little of all three. Any volunteers?

2. What is your worst habit?
My obsession with writing. I just can't put the pen, or should I say laptop, down. My Writer's Attention Deficit Disorder can kick in at any given time which is why I always keep a pen and paper handy. My fellow writer, Tracy, can attest to this.

3. Do you take compliments well?
It depends. I am always flattered when I get compliments on my writing and take those very well. However, when it comes to personal compliments I can turn pretty red with embarrassment. Still, I try to take it in stride, say a meager "Thank you" then quickly change the subject.

4. Do you think more about the past, present or future?
I am all about the future. While I have definitely learned from the past I am more focused on looking ahead. Tackling the next goal. I've always been voted "Most Ambitious".

5. Do you feel everyone has a soulmate?
Oh of course! Has anyone seen mine? If so tell him to hit me up on Facebook. (see there goes that sense of humor again)

6. Pick an animal that best displays your personality.
A Jaguar. I tend to be opportunistic, solitary and I have an exceptionally powerful bite. Oh, and let's not forget I'm a very rare find.

7. How long could you last without sex or what is the longest you've gone?
With or without a partner? Okay that really was TMI. Um...lets see. I think the longest I have gone is a year (without a partner). I can hear the horrified gasps sounding out from around the world. What can I say, I have high standards. Can't share the "good bits" with just anyone.

See you next Tuesday!
