Anyone who knows me can tell you that I’m addicted to makeup. I could spend all day roaming cosmetic counters. I received several emails from readers asking makeup tips for creating a sexy look for minority women, especially darker complexions. I’m not a professional, that’s what the NARS counter is for, but I do know how the frustration women of color have when it comes to finding colors that don’t make us ashy and/or aren’t just plain boring.

I’m a huge fan of smoky eyes. Love them, love them, love them! However if not applied correct you may take on the battered wife look, black eyes. Not good and definitely not sexy. Who wants to make out with a woman who looks as though she’s been in a street fight.

The one tip I can give is to blend everything and invest in a good brush set. Blending is so underrated and a quality brush goes a long way. As I mentioned, I’m not a professional but my girlfriend Lauren Luke is. Check out her Youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/panacea81

Eye Shadows: I generally don’t wear anything except for NARS (mostly their Nightlife Collection) on my eyes but I have been known to stray from the flock every now and then. The main reason I stick with NARS eye shadows is because of they rich pigments, you can layer them or user them as a sheer, they don’t cake or crease, and they can be used as eye shadows, eyeliners, and in to enhance your eyebrows. Trust me ladies purchasing quality makeup is worth it and it shows! Most people can spot beauty supply makeup for a mile away…You’ve been warned.

NARS: Galapagos- I wear this with everything! It’s a sheer gold color with soft shimmer that looks great on all hues of skin as oppose to the heavy yellow stuff that only looks good on clowns.

NARS: Night Clubbing- I could cry thinking about this one. Night Clubbing is a black based color with green and gold shimmers. If you just want a hint of the color but want the black to be your base color then I suggest you using a dry brush. For a concentrated pigment look with more color you will have to wet you brush a little with water or (trust me on this) silicone eye drops and pat the color on your lid rather then brushing it on. For darker complexion you may want prep your lid with a red based foundation for applying.

NARS: Night Flight- This color proves that sisters can wear blue eyes shadow. Night Flight is black based with cobalt blue pearls (shimmer). For more color use the same application steps as Night Clubbing.  If you want a more intense blue color that really pops you should apply a layer of NARS China Blue first and layer Night Flight from there.
