I promised Greg in the retelling of this account that I wouldn't make him sound like a complete madman. Yeah right, there's no way around it!

Greg and ZS are in Montreal this weekend playing golf and whatever else they do when they're paling around. And, as always, they stayed at the Ritz. Mind you, this is where we lodge on our trips to Montreal because of its proximity to everything and we need to burn a boatload of discount points. Did I mention Greg is frugal? He is.

Anyway, they checked into the rooms and left for the course only to return to the hotel to find their rooms locked. They went to the front desk where the manager explained that Greg's Amex was declined.

*Cue angry WASP*

Twenty minutes after the screaming stopped and blood returned to Greg's vital organs, the manager figured out the problem: The desk clerk charged their rooms to the customer BEHIND them in line…therefore that person's card was declined.

Just so you know, during busy check-ins, hotels often wait to run credit cards…sometimes they aren't run until the night auditors come on shift. As you can imagine this practice causes mix-ups.

Now, this slight mix-up might have been forgiven if the staff hadn't acted like total jerks, stopped them BEFORE they went upstairs, refused to allow them access to their rooms to retrieve their cards, and/or looked up our card on file.

While my husband is blowing his top, ZS calls me so that I to can listen to the tirade. It was a good one! Greg's really improved his compound swear words…clear, concise and downright insulting. He left no room for misinterpretation. Go babe!!

Anyway, they changed hotels and they're heading home later today. Let this serve as a warning. This is the first time it's happened to us, but I'm definitely double-checking my hotel receipts for overcharges from now on. I'm not paying anyone's room. Think about it, what if the guy's card hadn't been declined? I wonder if he was told about the mix-up?
