Have we learned nothing from my plagiarism post?! Hell, someone submitted my work to me! Seriously, how stupid can you be?
When will these assholes learn that we scribes stick together? We cast a broad net across genres and races—countries and continents! They will be caught, and they will be ripped a new one. And if luck is on our side, we’ll be able to throw their lying behinds to the readers because in the end they’ll be the ones getting screwed out of their time and, in some cases, their money!

Back to the top at hand…
I received this email from my gf Rachel. If you’re going to repost on your sites/blogs and require the original stories, publication dates, and author contact information, please shoot me an email. Please feel free to repost.
Read, heed, and attack!!
***UPDATE***
Doll's work has been removed however her fake bio is still active. Also, it's been brought to my attention that Fanfic (the site in question) is loaded with spyware. Be careful!
Here's the email:
Dear Friends,
Ok, this one I meant to send to everyone. It has come to my attention that there is someone stealing stories belonging to Dancing Doll, myself, and others.
This is the link so that any authors can check to see if their work has been plagiarized as well. Also, feel free to leave a review pointing out that the work has been stolen. Both Doll and I have contacted the admin, but we are not holding our breath. Also, Doll's bio was stolen as well, a true violation.
The stories in question were published on the other site in July of this year. It is not a requirement to sign up for the site to leave a review, it's rather painless. You just type in what you want to say, put in any name you want, and hit submit.
As writers, we take this as a very serious violation and it has made both of us wonder about the wisdom of posting stories on the internet in the future. I would consider it a personal favor to take 5 minutes of your time and offer your support in this matter.
My sincere thanks,
Rachel
END OF MESSAGE
How can these people get away with stealing someone’s ENTIRE bio!? They’re stealing our identities! Our identities are our reputations, our calling cards. We’ve spent years building them only to have them stolen by a faceless idiot!
Say this idiot uses racial slurs, post your material on disreputable sites, cyber-wanks with random pervs in YOUR name. Imagine having to prove to your readers and family that this isn’t you—someone has stolen your bio. Sure you’ll have your diehard fans and kinfolk. But there’ll still be that lingering question, that whiff of scandal.
Okay, I’m getting pissed just thinking about it. *Going to my happy place*
Copyright Made Easy:
Some writers (myself included) don’t mind if you use a couple of sentences from their material (quoting an editorial pieces, an interviews, etc) IF they’re given full credit AND there’s a link to their original work. Some require written permission beforehand. If in doubt, check first!
WARNING
When the IRE copyright alarm goes off, you’re not dealing with me…you’re dealing with my attorneys. The only exception to this is if you see “please feel free to repost”. In which case you're authorized to repost in full without asking.
Don’t copy without full credit, stupid!

Stealing another writer's bio? Really, how stupid can you be? When someone can't make up their own fictional life story...that's just lazy!

I am truly amazed at the level of stupidity some people have. I hope your friends lawyers are able to get some justice for her.

I saw two stories on Amazon that I read a few years ago and I'm pretty sure the author's name on Amazon was not the author I read. I tried to track down the stories but due to past laptop issues I was not able to find the stories.

Hiya folks.
I've asked writers who have discovered their work stolen to post a quick note on this thread because my inbox is FLOODED! In the past (correct me if I'm wrong about the time, Sharon) 72hrs, nearly 3000 writers (published & unpublished) have come foward. This isn't isolated to fanfic...it's happening across the web. Readers, please feel free to rip them a new one! If your work is lifted, here's where to start: - Sign up for access to the site (When applicable). Message the site owner immediately with the name/profile info of the thief, links to your original content, and your contact information. Insisting THEY as site owners intercede on your behalf within 48hrs. Also request a reply thereafter. (This demonstrates your willingness to use the chain of command, thereafter making the owners accountable for their actions. DO NOT CONTACT THE THIEF FIRST, THIS GIVES THEM TIME TO RUN). - If there is no reply, message the person who has stolen your work. Demand in the firmest terms that they remove the work within 24hrs and failure to do so will precipitate further action. Be sure to state that you have contacted the site owners (again, this establishes your paper trail). You may also want to copy and paste your message to the owner proving your ownership/copyright. - If they refuse to remove the work, notify the site owners again. Wait 24hrs for their reply. If there isn't a reply please let me know and I'll get my folks involved. Legally speaking, it's important to give the site owners time to react. This is also the case with the lying SOB who stole your work, though he didn't afford you the same courtesy. Time and date stamps are key. ****Site Owners**** How and why are you’re responsible? Any entity (business/sites/blog/foru ms etc) profiting a single penny from advertising can be held accountable since you’re profiting with stolen goods*. This is why it’s important for you to address claims of plagiarism swiftly and in writing. By refusing to remove the stolen material, you have not only broken copyright law; you have also broken international trade and marketing law. Word to the wish: Act swiftly! Take all necessary steps to demonstrate you’re in the side of justice (ie the victim). Protect yourself – keep a paper trail and treat the situation as if you’ll be defending yourself in court. *Unknowingly and knowingly profiting from stolen good is a crime...although unknowingly profiting is defined as “conspiracy to defraud”. Federal conspiracy charges carry a one year prison sentence…period! Think Martha Stewart; she wasn’t convicted of any wrong doing save conspiracy (unwitting profiting from illegal acts). Rapid and open response will save your tush should the victim press the issue. ***PUBLISHED AUTHORS*** You know the drill! ***READERS**** please feel free to rip them a new one! |
